Seven San Pedro Police Officers Arrested for Abuse of Authority and Bribery

Seven police officers from San Pedro Garza García were arrested by their colleagues on suspicion of abuse of authority and bribery during their detention. The Attorney General's Office identified the suspects as Brandon, Jesús, José, Hinkel, Félix, Fernando, and Abel. With this, the mayor of San Pedro, Mauricio Farah Giacomán, reaffirmed his intention to clean up the municipal police. The events occurred on the afternoon of March 9, when the seven officers finished their shift and handed over their units at the C2 located in the Valle Oriente area. They were arrested inside the facility. The arrest is in response to an investigation for alleged abuse of authority; however, during the detention process, the seven officers allegedly offered a considerable sum of money to a superior police officer to avoid it, for which they were also accused of the crime of bribery. Now, the seven detained officers are at the disposal of an Investigative Agent of the Public Ministry to determine their legal status. Meanwhile, the government of San Pedro reiterated that they will have zero tolerance for any improper conduct by public servants and will maintain full availability to collaborate with the rest of the justice authorities. "We reaffirm our commitment to maintaining a professional, transparent corporation at the service of citizen security," it was reported in the statement. Previously, Mayor Mauricio Farah, through his police corporation, reported that two other traffic officers had also been reported for extortion crimes, thus continuing a cleanup of the police in one of Mexico's safest municipalities. "In San Pedro, acts outside the law will not be permitted."
